Ins and Outs #4 and Update

Well, hello there! It sure has been awhile since I have posted on here, hasn't it? It's currently midnight on a Friday night, and I just got home from a very long day (um... make that a long week), so I thought I'd decompress by writing a bit. I enjoy writing Ins and Outs, and I know you guys enjoy them as well, so this is a good place to start.
________________________________________________________________________________

In:

Heathy Eating: I got a bit sidetracked this summer with eating out more than I should have been, but that has been corrected now. I feel better when I eat clean - everything tastes better and I have more energy. I have been eating as "close to earth" as possible by eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and of course, my all natural Greek Yogurt (possibly my all time favorite food). I've also been cutting out bready carbs (breads, crackers, pasta, rice, etc), but I still have them with one meal a day. I love carbs, so cutting them out completely would be really tough. To compromise, I normally have a carb-free breakfast and dinner, but have some for lunch. Today I had a slice of rye toast with a sliced tomato on top (and an avocado on the side - I'm obsessed with avocados), and man... it was delicious. But if I know I'm having sushi for dinner, or some sort of rice or pasta, then I make sure my lunch is carb-free. This "bready carbs at only one meal a day" trick was suggested by a nutritionist friend, and it's been working wonderfully for me. I've also cut back almost completely on refined sugar. No ice cream, cookies, cake, or anything like that. My sweet cravings are more than satisfied with a bit of dark chocolate along with my evening tea.

Pair that with...

Working Out: Yup. Back in my "Ins and Outs #3" I wrote that I wanted to start working out again regularly, and I made it happen. Again, this is a habit that never should have stopped, but sometimes life gets in the way and you get sidetracked. That happened this summer and early fall with all of the traveling Blair and I were doing, and before I realized it I was out of the habit! But have no fear, I have gotten back into the swing of things.

American Horror Story: I think "obsessed" is too gentle a word to explain my passion for this show. I think it's fantastic. I have enjoyed every season, and I think they have hit the jackpot with their slew of actors. My favorite character this season is Fiona - she rules every scene she is in. I wish there was more Tate, er, Kyle. And I wish he wasn't a non-talking weirdo. Oh, and my favorite line is when Kathy Bates straight up HISSED "LIIIIIIIIIES". Had me hollering.

Also, can we just discuss the insanity of this picture? I love it. It's so freaking weird. Keep it classy, witches. No one will suspect anything...

If I was a witch I would totally have that umbrella. It's the perfect "I'm queen witch bitch" umbrella.  And it's totally on the DL. And on this note, if you watch American Horror Story then you need to read Price Peterson's recaps after. I found him sometime during the last season, and his recaps are sometimes more entertaining than the episode itself. Like legit laugh out loud funny because he humor is spot on. Then he quit recapping and I was sad and now he's back YAY!

I also like Hart of Dixie. And Vampire Diaries. But I digress.

My will of steel when it comes to not giving into Diet Coke. According to my "countdown app"  I have been Diet Coke free for 163 days. That's over 5 months, and during that time I have only had one diet coke. One. And in my defense, it wasn't really my fault. It was the morning after a party, and after a few too many margaritas I was feeling a bit under the weather. I had stayed the night with my best friend from college, so naturally I reverted to my college ways with her. College Elle knew that the only thing to cure a nasty hangover was Diet Coke. So yeah, into my body that Diet Coke went, and man did I feel better afterwards. But, weirdly enough, it didn't taste super good. It tasted kinda syrupy? Not absolutely terrible, and trust me, I drank every drop, but I haven't had any cravings since. So yes... over 5 months with only 1 slip. Go me.

This picture. I mean, honestly. Jessica Lange makes this show. What was this scene? It had no point at all, except that it was awesome.

Knitting. I know. I am 80 years old. But hey, I've always wanted to learn. I'm a "yarn hearter" (I'm pretty sure I made that term up, based on a silly coffee mug I purchased from Etsy once, that had a picture of a sheep with the words "I <3 Yarn" on it.) I remember getting the giggles over how silly it was, and decided I had to have it. We should start #ProjectYarnHearter. If any of you want to learn to knit or crochet too, tweet me pictures with that hashtag. It will be fun. We can make pies together. Oh wait... next favorite.

The Mug.

Baking. Call it the month of many hobbies. I have picked up quite a few new ones this month... the holiday season tends to do that to me. It just makes me crazy! But when I say baking I don't mean cookies or cakes. Ohhh no. I've been experimenting with healthier options.

Out:

My insomnia. My sleep had been so good for the past few months, but in the last few weeks it has gotten really bad again. You would think that treating my body better (eating cleaner and working out) would cause my sleep to get better, or at the very least stay the same, but it seems to be getting worse the more "healthy" I am being! I don't even workout before bed! I swear!

________________________________________________________________________________

I legit took a break in the middle of writing this to bake some granola and dance around my kitchen. Okay I'm back.

________________________________________________________________________________

Pinecone the helper-bug-wannbe sitting on my freshly washed about-to-be-used cookie tray. He sat there, watched me hand wash it, and then promptly sat on it as my back was turned. So I rewashed it (naturally) and then made my stuff. And then Pinecone ate said stuff.

My name is Pah-Sghettio and I eat granola.

I don't think I have any other Outs. I'm pretty happy currently. I've been incredibly busy, but it's all good stuff. Blair and I are working on some more projects that we can share with everyone shortly, but until then you'll just have to trust that if we are slacking on videos it's because we are slammed with other things behind the scenes and it doesn't mean that we don't love you guys! That being said, I have been working on videos all week in order to get back into some semblance of a schedule.

*Warning... mini rant coming*

If I'm being honest though, I don't think I should do this whole video series thing again (Makeup Mayhem, FallThatGlitters, Vlogmas). I love doing projects like this on YouTube, because I think it's so fun to have a little project within a project (the main project being the whole channel), but people take it way too seriously, and it takes the fun out of it.

It's like this. I started out my channel as a hobby right? Because I loved it. Now, 5 years later, I still love it, and I'm lucky enough to make money off of it, which is awesome. It's not, however, my only source of income or my only job. So sometimes when I feel stuck in a creative rut (and yes, you do have to be somewhat creative to keep up a YouTube channel for 5 years. Anyone who says "You do the same thing over and over! That's not creative!" hasn't had a YouTube channel for 5 years), I'll come up with something fun like FallThatGlitters. The idea of the mini series re-inspires me and makes me want to throw myself into it, but sometimes life (and other parts of my job) get in the way. So a video is late, and people get upset. Fair enough. The problem comes from when people get upset even if the video is up on time. People are so used to picking apart YouTubers that I get pulled apart even when I am doing everything right! And the frustrating part is that the whole project was my idea in the first place, because I thought it would be fun! So then it starts this vicious cycle of me never feeling like I can catch a break, and then I feel I'd rather put my "all" into something else (running, knitting, baking, boys (wait, what?), reading American Horror Story recaps), and then I lose interest in the project, because it's not fun, because everyone is acting like the sun is going to crash into earth and we are all going to die if I upload at 1am and not before midnight. Or if I *horrified scream* get sick or have drama behind the scenes (friend drama, boy drama, baby mama drama,) or have other obligations that might actually be even more ethically important than my video on that particular day.

A lot of people have been requesting Vlogmas this year. In fact, I think there may be a petition on twitter to get me to do it. And honestly... I haven't decided if I am going to do it yet. I have been absolutely ripped apart over FallThatGlitters, and it makes me very wary to make any semblance of a promise. Even if I sit there in the first video and say "This is NOT a promise! I might not finish this series! I might miss videos! I WILL MESS UP!" people will be all upset the first time a video is late. Which is tough, because a part of me wants to do Vlogmas because it's fun. You can see how I'm in a predicament.

Bottom line: videos are for fun. They are fun. They are free, fun videos. Please keep things in perspective. Also, if you are reading this I am 99.9% sure that this section doesn't even pertain to you. You are my blog readers. You are my homies. You are love, not hate. Unless you are a hater. And if you are, I hope you never run into Misty Day (LOL!). She does not like haters.

And besides, haters will hate and potatoes will potate. Which means haters are taters. and taters are carbs. And I don't like carbs. Catch my drift?

Oh those grumpy tomates. I'm not even sure that this section made any sense. I just started typing, like a diary entry, and this is what came of it.

*Ponders over whether to keep it*

*If you are reading this then I obviously kept it*

Okay, it is now 3:30AM. It has taken me over 3 hours to complete this post. Good grief. Until next time, over and out, Captain Crunch.

  2. Oh my gosh, I'm just happy to see you and that you're doing well! I subscribe to so many beauty gurus and you're still my favorite one! I--and I hope others--will completely understand if you're not going to do a traditional hardcore series like vlogmas or month long projects, but might you consider small series requests? Like maybe 2 or 3 gift guides for the holidays or something like that? Perhaps that is a happy medium.Or random twitter Q&A videos? Oooh holiday decor!

Sorry, a bit too much coffee. :p

  3. Loved this post!

Maybe you could do vlogmas on Instagram, not YouTube. I'd imagine it wouldn't be as time consuming to film and edit, but for those of us who love and follow up on all channels would still get to see what you are up to and beauty trends or products you suggest. You could just do one pic collage post a day, or post more frequently with things like: mini hauls, quick vlog of what you're doing, OOTD, Face of the Day products, holiday decor, snap shot of products to use for a holiday party, etc.

I've watch you from the very beginning, 5 years strong! I remember finding your channel and your paris painting was always in the background in your dorm. You've come such a long way since then and it has been incredible to watch, read, follow, and tweet.

I think you're fantastic, so please keep up the good work :)

  4. Elle you are amazing! keep doing what you are doing and don't stress yourself about vlogmas! whether you do it or not, we still love you!

  5. Elle, I have been watching you for about 4 years now and I'm sure a lot of other girls can say that as well. You have a lot on your plate and we understand that. Don't let the haters blind you from the viewers that appreciate your hard work and love you! If you can't post a video or it gets delayed, don't beat yourself up. We aren't going anywhere (: We really do love your videos, fun personality, and Pah-Sghetto!

  6. Elle, I feel so bad that you have to deal with such hateful comments (especially Blair! I feel SO sad when I read some of the comments people leave her!). I really wish haters weren't allowed to comment because they write such horrible things on videos where there's nothing even wrong. Don't stress about all the fun suckers you have to deal with and remember that for every hater there's like 100 non-haters (lovers?)! We understand that you have a life and if people left annoying comments to me I would rather bake and knit and workout too! Don't worry about the annoying people and their comments and make videos at your own pace :) they are jealous of you anyways!

  8. Thanks for the post Elle! I love reading them. You should definitely write a post about your knitting! I would love to see your project. Obviously I would love for you to do Vlogmas as well, last year was SO much fun, but it seems like so much work for you to do at an already crazy time of year. You need to enjoy your Christmas and spend it with your family and friends. Don't feel pressured to do it if you aren't feeling it! It's always nice to hear from you, but it is so important for you take care of yourself first! I love your videos because of your fun (and silly!) personality, how can you be that way when you aren't taking care of yourself or aren't having fun posting? You are such a hard working woman, it is sad that some people can't see that.

  9. I'm 30 something health professional (closet beauty junkie) who only discovered you tube beauty gurus a few months ago. I'm way older than Ms. Elle but her videos are helpful for women of all ages. I really connect with her lifestyle brand. Watching Elle's videos has saved me so much time due to my busy schedule - every product that I tried which Elle recommended, I have LOVED it and my friends have loved it too! They're like how did you find this great product and can't believe I did it by watching you tube. She recommends quality over cheap badly made stuff and the few good cheap stuff that works, she recommends that too which I have bought and loved. You pay for what you get usually with exceptions. I discovered Ms. Elle's channel a couple months ago. What disheartens me so much is the following:
    1. These videos are free. If you don't like it, don't watch and stop spreading negativity.
    2. So what if she can't always adhere to a schedule. We're all human. We all have times when we don't feel well, have too much going on, or don't want to share stuff going on that's personal and need time off. I think I understand Elle. It's not easy to put up a good video that meets your own standards and after 5 years, it gets hard to be inspired. Beauty/design is also a form of art. Even Martha Stewart believe or not is a form of art. Heck, I lose my inspiration like every few weeks let alone years. Everyone has their own personality and view of what's art or not. Then when you get all this pressure to keep doing videos, you lose your inspiration even further and it's no longer fun but something that you dread. Sometimes people need to take a break to rejuvenate.
    3. Ever realize that those gurus who constantly post are actually more calculated business women. They really want to make that money and some do lots of sponsored videos and don't get as much negativity from the greedy viewers as Elle. At least Elle is true to herself and does not cater to those who are trying to change her to grow her fan base.
    4. LOVE the Vlogmas videos (more Pinecone please) but if no Vlogmas videos this year, no problem. You know why? Because I'm a fan and that's how a real fan reacts and I wish for the best for Elle.
    5. Yes, I'm probably wasting my time writing this because I know you can't reason with "antis." Antis are unreasonable unstable people who spread negativity like a disease. There's no cure. People who are not nice are not going to change and become nice unless they have suffered too that is if they have humanity deep within themselves. If you choose not to support Elle, then just don't watch. It's disheartening to see people trying to take someone down. Our society is so negative.

  10. I am glad you are getting back to the swing of things. Most people should be understanding that you have a life too and that, while YouTube is a part of your life, it is not your entire life. Thank you for being you! I love your videos and your blog. :)

  11. The holidays surely won't be the same without Elle doing Vlogmas. It is part of the magic!! You know there's kookie people out there most of them the elevator just sadly does not go to the top...or just plain miserable people who love to hate...but don't let them stop you from what you love to do...and what I and thousands and thousands of others look forward to oh so much!! Do it for your subbies and supporters that love you and your vlogmas vids so much...I've already found myself getting excited for it this year!! You shouldn't feel the pressure of making and putting up a video everyday of december...I would be excited just to see like 10 vids up...and by the way I find you extremely creative...anyone who says any different just has the crab in a bucket syndrome!! Your Vlogmas is part of the holiday fun...youre like a holiday icon!! ;)

  14. I loved this post Elle. I seriously agree with your rant. Your in's and your out's. I love you and I understand you have a personal life to and that you get busy because everyone does. I know YouTube is a lot of stress with all the people counting on you to upload videos but seriously you are the best youtuber I have watched I just love how upfront your are with people and how you and Blair are just yourselves. So please don't quit YouTube anytime soon I love you so much. I especially love your blog and your vlogmas last year totally put me in the holiday spirit. So if you decide not to do vlogmas can you please just do a couple Christmas themed videos it would definitely make my month. Love you so much.

  15. Elle, I love your blog even more than your videos (and I loooove them!). Don't worry about people who don't understand you have a life outside of Youtube. You're cute and funny and you only deserve friends not haters. So I'll be happy to watch your videos whenever you feel to film them. Big hugs :)

  18. I think you are amazing Elle, just ignore them and keep doing what you do because you want to, as soon as it becomes a chore you'll start to resent it and won't enjoy it, life is too short so there's no point in doing something if you resent it. xx

  19. Loved reading this, Elle. I was on a health kick for a while, and then just stopped... You've inspired me to get back on track :)
I feel like I've grown up watching you & Blair and now that I'm in university I'm excited to finally be starting my own channel. After uploading my first video, I realized just how much creativity & hard work goes into YouTube! As a loyal viewer, I just want to say that I'm constantly impressed by the content you put out & just how real & honest you are. I can trust your reviews & am always happy when I pick up one of your recommendations. Keep doing what you are doing <3

Ps. I love Vlogmas, and definitely rewatched some of last year's videos this week :) Please don't feel pressured to make more, but just take everyone's requests as compliments on Vlogmas last year! Perhaps don't even have an uploading schedule and just Vlog when you can!

    Much love,
    Michelle xx

  20. Hey, Elle!
Love your post and please ignore them haters taters :D

Talking about INSOMNIA, my close friend discovered that it went away almost immediately after getting rid of scented candles from her bedroom. I KNOW it sounds drastic, but maybe try it for a week and see what the effects are?

    Hope you're well!
And what's the deal with baby mama drama?!?!?! oooooh child!

  21. Well, I'm happy as long as you even put videos up! When a youtuber I haven't seen in a while put up a video, I just welcome them back with a smile. A video once a month is still better the no videos, right?:) Take care Elle!

  22. I don't understand why people get so upset even when you do put up a video! Some things are more important than filming. XXX

  23. Reading this I felt like I was reading one of my own blogposts. As we speak I have a cake in the oven and my knitting needles next to me. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only yarn hearting 20-something ;). I don't know what it is, but something about knitting and crocheting just relaxes me. I just finished my first scarf and I'm ridiculously proud of it.

As far as your video series goes... sometimes life just gets in the way. I've been blogging for some years now and I also have my ups and downs. Sometimes I feel like posting 10 updates in 1 day, and then there's times I go weeks without even posting anything at all. I have the luxury of not having to deal with haters and can't even imagine how it must feel like having to deal with people picking you apart every day. Try to not let it bother you, the most important thing is that you have fun making your videos.

That being said, I loved your vlogmas series last year. I'm a huge holiday-lover and I'd like to see you vlog the holidays again :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I always wonder how the haters can get so upset about a video. Are they not embarrassed by their comments? I mean, I watch YouTube videos, but my life doesn't revolve around them! Mostly, I think it is just really sad.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great blog post! Don't let the haters keep you from creating content that the non-haters love. So what if you miss a vlogmas video? As long as you make it fun for yourself, the rest will fall into place.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey Elle! Just wanted to say hi. I guess I don't have any "words of advice" on Vlogmas, etc. Because, really, what do I know. You are you and you are much more YouTube-knowledgeable than I am, and you know yourself and you know your comments/haters and you know your energy level and other commitments. So. I guess that's why I started typing this comment. But now I'm like, no, I'm not going to comment on that. So I will conclude this comment by saying that I support you no matter what you decide. Because you're right, it's meant to be fun!! <3 -Brianna

  27. Fact of life: you can't please everybody. In the end, you have to make sure that you lived your life doing what was best for yourself and those closest to you. So when thinking about Vlogmas, think, "would this make ME happy?". If so, go for it. If it would bring more bad than good, then forget about it. That said, love your channel and I am wishing good things your way!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Elle!! First thing first, I got so much pleasure out of reading this post. Somedays I wish I could meet you because you sound like a seriously cool person. I remember you showing off that yarn mug and I commented about it referring to knitting! So I'm glad you're getting into knitting. I will certainly send you pics/hashtags whatevs when I finish my next project.

I'd love for you to do Vlogmas, but I don't want you to feel pressured. I hope the haters don't take away your enjoyment-- and if they do be mean, you can shrug it off... we can't stop people from being lame, unfortunately :/ but we can choose how we deal with it. Do what's best for you.

People seem to feel very entitled to videos, and I'm not sure why. Though some people seem entitled to everything, and I'm not sure why. I will say though, with a wink ;) and a smile, that I wish (in a whimsical, oh-drat, not a negative, demanding way), that your last video on the crown braid had gone up just a bit earlier! I had a wedding to attend and I was trying to do the exact same thing to my hair without much success. I did something else instead and it worked out alright, but then I came home and saw the video and was like "*sob* if only it was up an hour earlier! I would've seen it and been saved!". Ah, well, c'est la vie. ;) There's always next time, right?

  29. Elle, we love you. Please don't think I'm hating: I totally understand your trepidation with all the mean comments, but wouldn't that just make you want to prove them wrong?? 30. You taught me how to finally perfect liquid eyeliner as well as introduce me to great brands. I discovered you over Christmas in I think 2009 and managed to write off an entire week going through your videos. You have developed so much as a person and although your channel was a great platform, i feel that you would have definitely found success regardless - it all comes down to who you are as a person, and you've got what it takes. Hold your head high. Love from a South African fan of 4yrs xo

  31. First off - loved this post! Second - I really hope you see this :)

Elle, you and Blair are my inspiration! I know exactly what you mean about getting busy and life happening and it being difficult to regularly upload! I have my own channel (not very successful at the moment, but time will tell). I only have about 1500 subscribers, but I love doing it so that's not really the point. Anyways, I have a lot going on in my life, like really serious things, along with going to university, trying to keep up with my friends who are also away in different cities at university, a relationship, keeping up with my family, and a part time job. So sometimes my channel gets put on the back burner because although its what I enjoy, sometimes more important things come first. I don't have people constantly hating on me for it though and I'm so sad that that happens to you and Blair. You girls are both so successful and inspiring, I wish more people saw that and encouraged you instead of trying to tear you down. I support you girls in everything you do: I read both of your books (love them, by the way), I bought boots from your collection on JustFab, I have items from your Skylark collection, I bought a bunch of different items off of ShopGlitzyGlam, I have one of your cellaris cases... you get the point lol, I think what you do is amazing and I wish I could do what you guys do, which is impossible, so instead I just support you in every way I can :)
I really hope that you read this, I really look up to you and Blair. Keep up the good work girl, you have tons of fans supporting you and every decision that you make. Tomatoes gonna tomate chicky, keep your head up ;) <3

  32. I quite my channel for over a year because almost every comment I got had to be deleted. People are dumb and cruel. BUT I think you should make videos call them Vlogmaybemas and set no schedule. The only requirement should be that you say Christmas or write christmas in the video and make it a game in the comments to catch it. Or anything like that.
I'm always a bit sad when you get busy or blocked and don't upload for a while, because I adore your videos and I miss seeing you when you don't upload. But I don't say anything bitchy about it because I have a blog and a youtube (4 years May 25th) and I know how hard it is to constantly upload. My first ever video was a What's in my Purse inspired by you.

I go through your old videos all the time, and still get so much inspiration from them. I buy many products that are on your fav list, and have loved every one of them. I even decided to do my own makeup for my wedding last month after watching your videos and trying out new products and techniques. Talk about confidence boosting. I wish our support could create a halo and make any haters disappear, but until then...

I (and many other viewers I'm sure of) love when you put videos up. But I am equally happy without a video up, but knowing that you're having a good time in your life. That to me is just as good as any video. And to the people who can't be satisfied with that, they shouldn't have the right to dictate what you do! No matter what Elle, stay happy. You have so many who love you regardless of your schedule. I know I'm one of those people! Get some sleep, do some knitting, and watch AHS! We are happy to know you have some you time :)
    Lots of Love, Maren <3

  38. I love the randomness and the honesty in this post! Also, American Horror Story is AHHHH-MAZING! And forget the haters, you shouldn't NOT do something that you want to do just because someone might get mad if it isn't exactly how they expect it. Do it for you and maybe even for your fans who support you no matter what, not because of what the haters will think and say!

  39. Ha ha, so glad I kept on checking your blog (and kept it #1 in my favs), I knew you would come back ! And of course you should take time off, no matter what haters say ! Keep doing what you love and way to go for #ProjectYarnHearter (even though I cannot even blog or Instagram my project as it is a surprise for the BF's Xmas present) !

  40. I can 100% see why you get upset when people get annoyed about you not uploading or finishing the series. I watch videos coz they're fun and interesting! Why has it become all so serious?!?!

I love this post and the honesty in it! Just keep doing what you're doing if its making you happy!! Maybe do your own version of vlogmas where you vlog during xmas but not filming/uploading everyday just when you want to. I did love your vlogmas last year and the present idea was so generous, but it seemed to stress you out. Its xmas, (the best time ever!) so do what you want! Pinecone does evidently! xxx

  41. I just think you're awesome. I laughed so hard over the last bit about hater, potaters and tomaters...lol! I wish more people understood that you have a life outside of videos. You have a business to run an a personal life. It's too bad that these haters have affected you so. I do hope it stops - or at least slows down.

  45. Hey Elle, I was one of those "dissappointed" people, but after reading this post I think now I get you... And I'm sorry for saying that you're just gone without saying anything and it's bad. You're human with your life out of Youtube, just I guess we all miss you... too much :D good luck with what ever you decide to do :)

  46. Great post Elle. :) I agree with Trisha's comment near the top somewhere ^ If shorter series work best for you then go with those, like the School Glam (?) series you did ages ago, or the travel series - they were awesome. I love it when Gurus do a 4 or 5 vid series, with a small intro vid. Quality over quantity as they say. :) I <3 your vids, don't let the hate get you down!

  47. I am so happy to see you stand up for yourself! I get sooo aggravated reading the comments after your videos, so I can only imagine how you are feeling. Do what you love, love what you do. Don't ever let some one else make you feel bad...especially about living your own life.

  48. I just wanted to tell you that I love when you do Vlogmas, and I really miss your Glitteratures. However, I completely understand that you have a life and other priorities. Don't stress. I don't know you, but I have been watching your videos for a couple of years. I just want you to know that you have one of the most beautiful spirits I have ever seen in a person. I mean that sincerely, and I appreciate all that you do. =)

  49. Glad to see a post from you! Keep your chin up!

  50. I have noticed the comments in all your videos and I think it is absolutely ridiculous. Please don't let it get to you.. If people cannot understand that fact that life is unpredictable then they are pretty silly. Your videos are always great and of a very high quality - so what if you can't always have them up regularly?

Also in terms of cutting out what you call 'bready carbs' - its very good for you! I've been reading alot about paleo eating and despite its critics, what I have discovered is that grains and grasses (wheat, rice, pasta, etc) actually create free radicals in your body and could actually be responsible for a huge amount of chronic disease. Since being grain free (about 4 weeks) I have also lost 6 kilos and feel amazing!

Anyway just thought that was worth a mention! Love and light xx

  51. Preach it sista! ;) Elle…you have been doing this long enough to know this BUT people are a** holes. You are fabulous and such a sweet, genuine soul. I hope you do not let the self involved, selfish, Debbie Downers get to you. And not to offend anyone here but if a late YouTube video is really that serious and life shattering, you really need to find a hobby. Maybe pick up knitting like Elle! :D

  52. What up my knittah! I started learning to knit this year and crocheting has been a long hobby of mine. My favourite blog to read about knitting is One Sheepish Girl, it's just lovely :)

I always love seeing a video from you, but you shouldn't feel pressured to do any more than what you want to, or what you are capable of. I would love to see Vlogmas, mainly because it makes me feel happy and excited for the season, but if it makes you feel down or drained, I wouldn't want that either. Haters be hatin'. Just know that the lovely people who have nice things to say don't pipe up as much.

Sorry for the wall of text. Peace out sista and keep doing what you love <3

  53. I'm so happy you're finally talking back to your haters Elle. I hate seeing all the negative comments on you and Blairs videos, especially since they are so high quality and thought through. I however hate the idea of you giving up on posting schedules. I for one love that they make you upload videos more often because they make me happy when they show up in my subscribtion box. But I really don't care if you miss a video or two or upload them i day late. So pretty pleaseeeee do Vlogmas but make sure to say that you probably will miss a couple days and just ignore the haters. They're just mad because they don't have lives of their own. <3

  54. Your channel is your hobby and I wish people would stop hating on you so much... the only thing I can say is I wish you did more makeup tutorials and GLITTERATURES!! I love reading and got a lot of my book ideas from what you've been reading, like the Divergent series :)

  55. You're such a good blogger and Youtuber! I'm pretty sure the people who complain about your videos being late have no life because their waiting for yours to be uploaded. LOL. I'm a fan and I know your videos will be there when I have time to watch them. I have a life so I usually find videos I like and put them on my Watch Later playlist. I know a lot of people are commenting here and saying you should do it for fun for the video series, so true BUT maybe you should just do it for you. Do Vlogmas for the memories so you can watch them years from now! I mean maybe not even introducing that your going to do a series would be better and it would like a surprise! And who says that Vlogmas has to be like the whole month of december? Or whatever it is, I actually don't even know, HA. Series are cute, I get it. I don't think the haters aren't going to go away all together....and maybe you making this post will make people understand more....but I hope something changes for the better so you won't be so upset to do something you love! Everyone has a limit and if you ever want to stop doing YouTube just rememeber your best comments.

  56. I've been checking in on this blog over the months waiting for an update. I even have the link bookmarked on my phone. But I wasn't about to hound you asking: where is a new blog post?! Because unlike some people who watch YouTube videos, I know you don't owe me anything. Anyways, I quite enjoyed this lengthy update. I'm having some neck pains and this was a nice distraction as I wait for the drugs to kick in.
You should always do what makes you happy and follow the things that bring you peace. Just know that those haters and complainers aren't the majority; they're just loud.

  58. Ellllllllllle! I missed you so much! I check iheartyoucoffee every day! I'm going to miss vlogmas on YouTube because the way you celebrate Christmas makes me smile- it was your first videos I watched, along with your decor videos (how's the condo shaping up)

Maybe you shouldn't do vlogmas but just do similar videos or blog posts on your own schedule?

Those YouTube haters are pretty cruel... I'm so happy you don't let them under your skin.

  59. I can honestly say that I love 99% of your videos Elle. Even including the sponsered ones afterall the reason you are able to give so many videos still is because at the end of the day you need money to live and what not. Vlogmas is definitely my favourite part of your channel but I can understand why you wouldn't really want to do it. Getting hater comments all the time over everything would definitely get on my nerves too and the whole thing would turn into a downer. Maybe instead of even saying anything about vlogmas you just vlog on days you feel like it? Even if it's just once a week. Either way you choose to go your actual fans will still enjoy your videos. Just don't do it if it doesn't make you happy because that is obviously the most important part. :)

Oh and just a quick little shoutout to pinecone, he's the cutest cat ever! I love when you include him in your videos especially since I can't have a cat of my own where I live.

  60. How about just doing some videos throughout December, on your own time and when you feel like it, like in the good old days before there was a "Vlogmas" meme on YouTube? Your videos are fun free videos, like you said! And you should have fun making them. There's no need to stick to some strict schedule just because other vloggers are doing vlogmas. Your subscribers will still enjoy the videos that you post, especially when they're videos that you *want* to do.

  61. Elle, first of all thank you so much for all the hard work you put into each project, video, product, and blog! Don't think it goes unnoticed, because so many of your fans have been there with you along the way and understand how many opportunities you have worked for and earned! You owe people absolutely nothing, and yet give them everything, even when there are those out there that have made it less enjoyable to do so. I look forward to any video, product, project, and blog you put up, and always will! <3

  62. You are funny. I (obviously) don't like EVERYTHING You do/produce/record/sign ecc, but I never forget you are a person, not my personal entertainer, and you owe me nothing. But I'ts easy to forget that as a viewer. Wish you and your sis all the best, and Good luck for the next big project.

  65. People need to grow up and realize that youtubers have lives! They can't always be expected to adhere to every schedule there is. On the other hand youtubers need to also realize that they wouldn't have all of these side projects without their fan base. It doesn't kill you to post a video every other week or a blogpost every 2 weeks. Just always remember the reason you have wonderful opportunities such as the makeup line. Just don't take on too much. Just a little food for thought. You're still my fave YouTuber and the one I relate to most Elle!!

  66. i completely understand where u are coming from elle:) i think its also fun to put up videos that arent a big deal, even if some people dont like them ( but hey u cant please anyone). i just hate seeing youtubers getting stressed/anxious about their content because honestly, a lot of people understand and probs dont want you spending so much time trying to make them perfect :)

  67. I'm proud of you.
Always stand up for yourself. I'm glad you didn't spout off stories and excuses. It's just "this is what it is, and i'm human too," and no excuses. Life happens. It takes a little bit to get your bearings back and inspiration has to be there. I'd rather have the quality you produce and not the quantity.
Ok yes, it is anticlimatic when I brew my cup of coffee and sit down to read my "news" and no new post is up, but whadayagunado? BeautyMouth...she gets busy too. I haven't spoken to my mom in a week, not because I stop caring but because things get busy. We good, girl. And thank you!

Your fans love every video and defend you no matter how late you post or if it never goes up at all, we're just grateful you upload at all ever!! :) Don't let the haters ruin all the fun

  70. Elle,

You and I share many of the same interests, and that's why I like you so well. I read your full blog post, and found myself sympathizing with you. Youtube can be like a hungry a beast that constantly needs fed (and people will still complain about the meal). I genuinely feel for you in regards to being.completely unable to please everyone.

HOWEVER, I think you sell yourself and your viewers short sometimes, and critiques that come from a place of genuine caring, respect, and admiration get lost in all the stupid. jealous, adolescent, teenage hub-bub.

You and your sister are obviously brilliant at marketing, and turning something like YouTube into a means of entrepreneurial pursuits. So much of that can be used as an asset in your videos, yet it's disappointingly ignored. Blair has taken flying lessons, and you have studied law! Yet, these tremendous things are mentioned as an afterthought when discussing the benefits of a $32.00 tube of lipstick.

I think the lack of passion has come from YouTube becoming a job. You, now have to promote products to maintain a lifestyle, while at the same time frustrating subscribers, who are tired of being sold. It's definitely a conundrum, but it's not inescapable.

Instead of selling your books as the final product, take us on the journey of writing and publishing. So much positive inspiration can be gleaned from that. Show us the in and outs of product development for both glitzy glam and skylark. You have a wealth of valuable and interesting knowledge at your fingertips, that can be a benefit to many. Yet, we're reduced to yet another video on a "date night" look.

The passion you show for writing will sell books. The passion you show for running glitzy glam will sell products. You'll accomplish the same goal, without the subscriber feeling like they're watching a commercial.

As for the beauty tutorials, there's so many of them now. Everyone's trying to sell the same thing, and the more successful the "guru" becomes, the less relatable they are. It's because they can now afford to purchase products that their teenage subscribers cannot afford to buy. That results in jealousy, instead of admiration and promotes feelings of personal insecurity, which results in more and more hostility within the comments.

You probably won't read or see this, but I hope you will. Because I think if you listen to what I've said and adopt it, even if in small measure, your passion for YouTube will grow, as will the admiration. Of those who watch you.

  73. Here's an idea... when you want to do a series like FallthatGlitters or MakeupMAYhem, keep it to yourself. Don't announce it, just do it. That way, if something in your personal life comes up last minute, you can just film when it's convenient for you. Your subscribers will be happy to see videos pop up more often and won't be disappointed with excuses when they aren't on time. It's really a win-win.
